With every large scale change, project or programme, some controls and structure are needed to ensure that everyone involved knows how the journey is progressing and where course correction may be needed. It can also be useful to standardise the approach to running change projects across the organisation, at least in principle, as that avoids re-inventing the wheel.
It’s also important though to remember why these controls are in place and continually challenge whether they are continuing to serve the needs of the organisation or the change initiative. We’ve seen all too many instances where this has happened and the governance structures and processes actually end up stifling innovation, frustrating everyone involved and slowing down change. Our job is to help our clients to find the right balance, staying in control whilst allowing our natural innovative qualities to shine through.
